Dr. Xiaolei Huang

Xiaolei Huang is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Missouri. He received his PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder. Before joining Mizzou, he was an assistant professor of computer science and co-director of the Center for Emerging Technologies in AI at the University of Memphis. His research develops trustworthy, robust and data-efficient AI and natural language processing (NLP) methods. His work addresses fundamental challenges in data imbalance, temporal shift and causal robustness in large language models and multimodal AI, with applications in healthcare, precision agriculture and AI for science and engineering. Huang has received federal and industry support, such as NSF CAREER, and his work has appeared in leading AI, NLP and health informatics venues, including a 2024 Best Paper Award. At Mizzou, he leads research on trustworthy foundation models and AI for science and engineering and aims to advance cross-disciplinary collaborations across the university.
